Model 3 · Edge · on-premise (BYOI)
Space Engine Edge (on-premise, BYOI)
Space Engine as a customer-managed (BYOI) deployment: the same software as Space Engine Edge, running on infrastructure you own or provide. We tailor the deployment to your environment.
Your own data centre
The platform runs on your hardware and in your network. Data, keys and event history stay in your infrastructure.
Kubernetes, Docker or bare metal
We deploy the platform on a Kubernetes cluster, in Docker containers or as a bare-metal installation. Linux is the recommended server environment.
Deployment and integration
Space designs the architecture, installs the platform and integrates it with your systems (e.g. PMS, BMS) via REST API, WebSocket and webhooks.
Specifications
| Service model | enterprise licence + deployment and integration services (self-hosted) |
|---|---|
| Hosting | customer’s infrastructure and hardware (server room or data centre) |
| Supported environments | Kubernetes, Docker, bare metal |
| Recommended OS | Linux |
| Isolation | full, in the customer’s network; operation in an isolated (air-gapped) network possible where required |
| Operated by | the customer’s IT team, with Space deployment support |
| Licence | enterprise; number of devices according to the licence |
| API and integration | REST API (HTTP/JSON), WebSocket, HTTP webhooks; integration with the customer’s systems as part of the deployment |
| Backup and recovery | on the customer’s side, following its procedures; we agree the plan when designing the deployment |
| Scaling | from a single server to a cluster of several servers (Kubernetes) |
| Typical customer | large organisations with their own IT team and data centre, e.g. hotel chains, public administration, critical infrastructure |
| Edge variant | BYOI: customer-managed (BYOI) deployment on the customer’s infrastructure, tailored to the environment; the infrastructure must meet the minimum requirements |
Minimum environment requirements
| Operating system | Linux (recommended) |
|---|---|
| Runtime environment | Kubernetes, Docker or bare metal |
| CPU and memory (reference point) | as in the Space Engine Edge base configuration: Intel Core i5-6400 (4 cores), 16 GB RAM; final sizing agreed individually |
| Storage | agreed individually, depending on the number of devices and how long event history is kept |
| Network | IP connectivity between the server, the Space Gate hubs (MQTT) and applications (HTTPS/WSS); internet access is not required in an isolated setup |
Indicative values, to be confirmed when designing the deployment. The infrastructure must meet the requirements agreed with Space.
How the deployment works
Together with your IT team we choose the environment (Kubernetes, Docker or bare metal, Linux recommended) and the architecture: a single server or a cluster. Space installs the Space Engine platform (MQTT broker, microservices, databases, API), connects the Space Gate hubs and integrates the system with your applications. Your team then runs it, with Space support.
Prefer a ready-made appliance?
Space Engine Edge is the same software delivered as a ready server module: we select and preconfigure the hardware, and you plug it in on site.
One platform, several deployment models
Space Engine runs in these models: Cloud (shared SaaS), Cloud (managed private cloud) and Edge (on-premise: appliance or BYOI), which can be combined as Space Engine Edge + Cloud (hybrid, HA/DR). All of them use the same software, API and devices, so you can switch models without replacing devices and keep control of the infrastructure and security procedures on your side.
